Most wickets in WPL 2025
Like the IPL, the Purple Cap and Orange Cap are the highest individual honours for players in the WPL. The Purple Cap is awarded to the player who takes the most wickets, while the Orange Cap is awarded to the player who scores the most runs.
West Indies star Hayley Matthews won the Purple Cap in the first WPL season in 2023, taking 16 wickets in 10 matches and leading Mumbai Indians to the title.
She was also the best player of WPL 2023. In the final, she bowled a brilliant 3/5 against Delhi Capitals.
UP Warriors’ Sophie Ecclestone took 16 wickets in 9 matches. Nevertheless, Mathews won the Purple Cap due to a better economy rate.
Matthews had an economy rate of 5.94 and an average of 12.62 in WPL 2023. Ecclestone, on the other hand, had an economy rate of 6.62 and an average of 14.68.
According to the rules, if two or more bowlers have equal wickets, then the better economy rate is the tie-breaker. If the economy rate is also equal, then the bowler with the higher strike rate wins the Purple Cap.
Indian spinner Shreyanka Patil won the Purple Cap in WPL 2024 by taking 13 wickets in 8 matches as Smriti Mandhana -led Royal Challengers Bangalore won the title.
Patil surpassed RCB teammates Asha Shobana and Sophie Molineux, who took 12 wickets each in 10 matches.
