Punjab Kings
As KL Rahul joined Lucknow Supergiants as their new skipper ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Monday (February 28) named Mayank Agarwal as the new captain. Agarwal, who is one of Rahul’s closest friends, has been one of the most consistent performers for PBKS with the bat. Mayank has been an integral part of Punjab Kings since 2018 and has also served as the squad’s vice-captain and also briefly captained the team last season.

Mayank, who was one of the two players retained ahead of the mega auction along with pacer Arshdeep Singh, said he was excited on being given the responsibility to lead the franchise.
Two Groups Of Five Teams
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed the two groups for the IPL 2022 season. The addition of two new franchises has prompted the league to have two separate groups.
The teams in each group were decided based on the number of titles won by the franchises and the number of appearances in the final of the IPL. Therefore, Mumbai Indians (MI) with five titles and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) with four titles were drafted first.
Each team will play 14 matches in the league stage where they will face off twice against the other franchise in its group, and once against each franchise in the other group.

Each team will play twice with the teams in their group and with the team in the same row in the second group. With the rest of the teams in the second group they will play only once during the season.
For Example:
In Group A, MI will play 2 matches each against KKR, RR, DC, LSG. MI will also play 2 matches against CSK and 1 match each against other teams in Group B.
Similarly, in Group B, RCB will play 2 matches against CSK, SRH, PBKS and GT. RCB will also play 2 matches against RR and 1 match each against other teams in Group A.
The tournament will kick off on March 26 after the meeting of the IPL Governing Council (GC). As many as 55 matches of the league stage will be played across three venues in Mumbai while 15 remaining games will be played at the DY Patil Stadium in Pune. The venues for the playoff matches will be decided at a later time.
