The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially announced the appointment of Devajit Saikia as Secretary and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia as Treasurer. Both individuals were elected unopposed in their respective roles, having been the sole nominees for these positions.

The announcement was made public through a BCCI press release, with President Roger Binny expressing his confidence in the newly elected officials. “I extend my warmest congratulations to Mr. Devajit Saikia and Mr. Prabhtej Singh Bhatia on their appointments as Honorary Secretary and Honorary Treasurer, respectively,” Binny stated. “They are taking forward the exceptional legacy of Mr. Jay Shah and Mr. Ashish Shelar, who have set exemplary standards in these roles. I am confident that their proven administrative acumen and deep understanding of financial operations will help us reach new heights in both governance and financial management. I also take this opportunity to thank our State Associations for their unanimous support and their faith in our shared vision for Indian Cricket.”

Saikia, representing the Assam Cricket Association, previously served as the interim Joint Secretary. He now assumes the full-time role of Secretary, succeeding Jay Shah who stepped down upon his appointment to the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Similarly, Bhatia was elected Treasurer following the resignation of Ashish Shelar, who was compelled to step down from his BCCI position due to his recent appointment as a member of the Maharashtra government.

This unopposed election signifies the confidence that the BCCI and its member associations have placed in Saikia and Bhatia to effectively lead and manage their respective departments. Saikia, with his experience as interim Joint Secretary, is expected to bring continuity and stability to the Secretary’s role. Bhatia, with his financial expertise, is poised to ensure the sound financial management of the BCCI.

The appointments of Saikia and Bhatia mark a new chapter for the BCCI, as they take on the mantle of leadership from their predecessors. The expectations are high, and both individuals will be crucial in guiding Indian cricket towards further success in the coming years.
